You thought we’d leave you hanging didn’t you? We’d never do that. It’s time to put your WHAM! On pause (only for a minute we promise), and the part 2 of the Guide to Starting a New Account Part 2 in Marvel Contest of Champions starts now! For those that missed the first part, you can find it here: Part 1
Before we begin we would like to note that this guide is to help players maximize their first 3 months of the game and take advantage of things like arena (which we will cover in a later guide). So while some of this may seem intense for a player just beginning, if you follow the steps you’ll and put in the effort you’ll certainly thank us! If you have any questions, please write a comment below!
Starting a new Account – Marvel Contest of Champions – Part 2
- Questing- Alright, you’ve finally made it to the actual fighting. You hopefully got a 3 star or rare 4 star (Yes many people have yelled at us for how lucky we are pulling a 4 star on our 25 account creation attempt). Speaking of that, please note that you get a phc by signing up with kabam and giving an email (top left gear in game, register and you’re gifted a phc!). As far as questing comes at this point, we’ll keep it very basic. Start playing act 1, and fully explore act 1. It’s not too much energy, and it’s good for saving up some iso that you’ll need to take your characters up and grind in arena. We’d also advise you find an alliance so you can ask for energy help. This will help speed things up for you. You’ll get enough full energy refills to complete Act 1 with some left over.
When you start Act 2, we took Seatin’s advice and just ran through it without fully exploring (isn’t worth it for the energy and what it pays out). Once you run through this, it’s time to start Act 3. It’s very important to not feel rushed to do these acts, especially with Act 3. For us what we tried to do was run through an act 3 map until our energy was down to 0, and then we would request help. When we were full of energy, we would either play one of the normal or heroic quests, or mostly run the daily catalyst events (They’re essential to ranking your characters up as quickly as possible to score well in arena). We also want to note that depending on the special event, running normal mode will get you a 3 star character, and that should be your focus. Getting as many 3 and four stars as possible for arena is your focus! Don’t lose sight! (We’ll talk about arena here soon, we promise). But in the first few weeks questing wise, this write up should be more than enough for you to do and accomplish.
- Units- This brings us to the next step….. You’re going to be collecting units from completing story and special event quests. This might be a little controversial to some, but we suggest not spending them unless absolutely necessary. Most people will say to buy the phc’s with units, and we guess if you aren’t having any luck in getting 3 star champs right away you could… But we personally did not and wouldn’t suggest it. Between alliance shards, running quests, and eventually starting even on the 2 star arena, you should get a decent amount (12-15) 3 or 4 stars within at least the first month. Which will allow you to raise hell in arena. But we digress… DON’T SPEND YOUR UNITS. Not on featured crystals, not on energy refills, not on anything just yet. Save these units, and you’re going to want to spend them on.
- Masteries! Masteries at this point are the only thing you should spend units on. Masteries are going to be essential in helping you develop and fighting higher caliber opponents, which you will in arena, believe me. There’s almost nothing more important in this game than Masteries when first starting, so it’s essential that you spend on these. The first masteries you’re going to want are: 1 in Limber, 1 in Dexterity, and 1 in Parry. Limber is needed to unlock the other 2. Dexterity is huge, It gives you the chance to evade, which means you can dodge enemy specials. We can’t stress enough to practice and utilize this. If you want to be a good player, you have to know how to evade. Parry is also very important. Parry is essentially tapping the screen right as your opponent is about to strike you, and you will stun them. This is a huge advantage, and will make fighting so much easier for you. As far as the other masteries, We suggest looking at this guide. It’s a pretty simple build. You’re going to want to max cruelty as quickly as you can, which will cost a bunch of units, but will be well worth it. It will make you’re fighting a lot faster, we promise! We’ve personally not unlocked precision yet, as we’re saving us units for arena. So we would say you can focus on cruelty just for now, and precision when you get more units. Defense you don’t need anything yet, so don’t worry. And WHOOSH. There you have it, a basic set up that will get you through pretty much all obstacles…. For now!
Sorry for the lengthy article, but we wanted to cover these next few steps as their pretty important.
