How to Android Wear on iOS

Google recently announced that Android Wear is now work with iOS. This does not come as a surprise, but is an awesome news for Apple users, who only had access to the quite expensive Apple Watch. With the Moto 360 for only 149.00$ this is a great opportunity to use wearables with the iPhone. Android Wear works with the following Apple devices: iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus running with iOS 8.2+. Which Android Wear devices are compatible with iOS

The amount of older Android Wear devices that are officially compatible with iOS is somehow limited. In the most cases a factory-reset will make older devices work with your Apple device. These are the confirmed devices working together with iOS:

  • Asus ZenWatch 2
  • LG Watch Urbane
  • Huawei Watch
  • Samsung Gear
  • Moto 360

Which apps work with Android Wear on iOS?

For now, only Google apps run together with Android Wear on iOS devices. Sadly, third-party iOS apps are not supported due to Apple’s restrictions. For now there are the following apps:

  • Google Fit
  • Google Maps
  • Google Now (incl. voice commands)
  • Hangouts
  • Notifications
  • Third-party watch faces

How to setup Android Wear on the iPhone

  1. Download and run the new Android Wear iOS App
  2. Have your Android Wear device ready, select a language and accept terms and conditions
  3. Accept pairing on your iPhone. Activate bluetooth sharing and notification access.
  4. You do not need to plug-in your Android Wear device to a power connection, it is just a recommendation
  5. Your Android Wear device will now be updated by your iPhone
  6. You should now see the tutorial screen. In the next steps you’ll be asked to confirm all sorts of access rights (location, notification sharing, etc.). Confirm all of those or you won’t be able to proper use your Android Wear with your iPhone
  7. Now you’re down. You’re now able to customize and change different settings on your Android Wear.
